Virtual CFO Services for US Startups and SMEs

NYBACS Services

For founders and leadership teams of US startups, SMEs and foreign-owned subsidiaries who need senior finance judgement but not yet a full-time CFO. We build your cash forecast and budget, turn monthly books into board-ready reporting, prepare financial models and data rooms for fundraising, and put basic controls in place. You get a finance lead who knows your numbers, attends the meetings that matter and coordinates bookkeeping, tax and audit providers.

Who this service is for

  • Seed to Series B startups preparing to raise, or reporting to investors and a board
  • SMEs with $1M+ revenue that have outgrown bookkeeper-only finance
  • US subsidiaries of overseas groups that need local finance leadership and reporting to the parent
  • Founders who make spending and hiring decisions without a reliable cash runway forecast
  • Companies heading into an audit, acquisition or due diligence process

Why clients come to us

Key problems we solve

Not knowing the real runway

A bank balance is not a forecast. Without a rolling cash forecast, payroll, hiring and fundraising timing are decided on instinct.

Board packs built the night before

Inconsistent metrics, numbers that do not tie to the books and no variance explanation erode investor confidence.

Fundraising diligence exposes gaps

Investors test revenue, burn, cohort data, cap table and compliance history. Missing or contradictory data slows the round or changes its terms.

Finance tasks owned by nobody

Bookkeepers record, tax preparers file and auditors test — but no one owns pricing, unit economics, approvals or the overall finance calendar.

How it works

Our process

  1. 1

    Finance diagnostic

We review your books, reporting, cash position, cap table and upcoming decisions, then agree priorities for the first 90 days.

  2. 2

    Foundation

We fix the data foundation — chart of accounts, close process and KPI definitions — so reports can be trusted.

  3. 3

    Forecast and budget

We build the cash forecast, budget and financial model with your leadership team.

  4. 4

    Monthly cadence

Each month we review results, update forecasts, prepare the management or board pack and join the review meeting.

  5. 5

    Projects as needed

Fundraising, pricing reviews, audit preparation, new-market entry or system changes are added on a defined scope.

Documents we’ll ask for

  • Last 12–24 months of financial statements and current accounting file access
  • Bank and payment-processor statements and current cash balances
  • Cap table, investor agreements and board reporting from the last year
  • Revenue data: customer list, contracts, subscription or order exports
  • Payroll and headcount plan, including planned hires
  • Existing budget, model or investor updates, if any

Typical timelines

Indicative and dependent on the quality of existing books.

  • Diagnostic: about 1–2 weeks.
  • First cash forecast and KPI dashboard: usually within 2–4 weeks of onboarding.
  • Full budget and three-statement model: commonly 3–6 weeks.
  • Ongoing: monthly cadence aligned to your close, with board packs typically ready 2–3 weeks after month-end.

If bookkeeping is behind, a catch-up is done first — reporting built on unreconciled books is not reliable.

We coordinate with your attorneys, auditors and tax professionals rather than stepping into their roles.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

When does a startup need a virtual CFO rather than a bookkeeper?

Usually when you are raising money, reporting to a board, nearing a cash decision or spending significantly on hiring. A bookkeeper records what happened; a CFO helps decide what should happen next.

How many hours per month is typical?

It depends on stage and activity. Many early-stage companies need a few days a month, rising during fundraising, audit or budgeting. We scope the commitment after the diagnostic.

Can you help us raise money?

We prepare the financial model, reporting and data room and support diligence. We do not solicit investors or receive success fees, as that would require broker-dealer registration.

Do we need to switch our bookkeeper?

No. We can oversee your existing bookkeeper or accountant. If the books are not reliable, we may recommend changes or offer our bookkeeping team.

Can you report to our overseas parent company?

Yes. We can prepare monthly reporting in the parent's format, reconcile intercompany balances and align the US budget with group planning cycles.
